The pencils that you mentioned running out of lead fast was probably because there was only one or two sticks in there. They are meant to be refilled, you buy replacement lead packs and the erasers can be swapped out as needed also. The cheaper ones tend to have a little more lead because they are more of a disposable use until empty or broken type product ( still can be refilled though)
