Fun fact: the cherry trees in DC were sent over from Japan in 1912. Well, originally in 1909, but the first crop had a blight and had to be burned, so they sent EVEN MORE disease-free trees in 1912, and ever since, it's been A Thing (aside from a mysterious four-year gap that we don't talk about)
